I haven't been blogging for over a month because I've been to busy practicing for the Easter Concert. The practices started off on Sundays and Tuesdays nights and the closer it got to Easter itself, the practices became longer and more frequent. Poooftt. I'm so tired. :)

Even though the practices were tiring, they were fun and I gained a lot of stuff.

I lost a lot of fats doing ninja jumps and sit ups.

I learned how to not look so awkward on stage.

To never close my eyes while singing a fast song.

I learned how to sing alto. (not really well though) :/

I got to know certain people better =)

Mirimulu part 2

While we were in Miri, I couldn't get over the fact that everything looked so Malaysian. The streets, shops, malls, and almost everything else looks like something from Kuala Lumpur. I think I expected everything to look different.

While we were walking to the caves, it started raining, and we only had 4 raincoats.

So I had to use the garbage bag :P

Of course our shoes and socks got really wet and stinky, so this was my brothers' method of drying them. ugh.

I didn't join them :D

But I really hope the people in Mulu don't find this picture =x

When we got back to Miri, we went to their beach and hunted for crabs :)

We found out that Najib was holding an open house, so we decided to watch.

After awhile, I went to explore the place. I was walking around and suddenly I saw that a man selling cartoonish balloons accidentally released a bunch of his balloons. The wind was blowing the balloons towards me, so I ran a bit and caught it. When I returned it to him, (some people clapped, which made it a bit awkward,) he gave me one for free :)

After sweating and sweating, we found that we could just watch everything live from Dave's Deli, which had air con... -.-

It was a really fun and interesting trip, however; I found the caves to be the most boring-est part.

Happy Valentine's Day!

For Chinese New Year 2011, my family decided to skip begging for ang pows and go on a holiday. We decided to go to Mulu which is in Miri which is in Sarawak which is in Malaysia. (Malaysia is our country, Sarawak our state, Miri a city, and Mulu a town J )

On Thursday, we flew a 2 hour flight to Miri, where we rested at this guest house called Dillenia. It was really nice, and I read “New Moon” there.

The next morning we flew to Mulu, and went to the national park. The park was really clean and orderly, the ground was actually like marsh, so there were wooden walkways leading to the dorms, café, and other stuff.

I shared a room with my two brothers,

Our room's name was "Porcupine Cave" and it was really comfortable.

awww... so cute :)

During the 3 days that we stayed there, we visited 4 caves.

Deer cave, it is the world’s largest cave passage it has been said that the chamber is so big that it could accomodate about 40 Boeing 747s without overlapping their wings. 3 million bats, and has an Abraham Lincoln's profile.

On the way to the Clearwater cave, we went to a small kampung by the river. There we saw dogs, cats, kids swimming naked in the river =X, and cute baby chicks! :D. We also saw a small SIB church :3

We then flew back to Miri, and we found out that Najib was there and giving an open house. We watched dances, Chinese dancing with the swords, and other stuff. I got a spiderman balloon for free! But I’ll write about that later when I have the pictures.

I realize that I don’t seem to be able to talk like a lot of other girls, theirs conversation is always hyper, doesn’t make much sense (to me), and involves a lot of squealing and shouting. ‘Girl talk’ is when they say stuff in the super high pitched voice, “like oh my gawwwddd, that guy was so hot.” I normally just put on that super blank look and go, “uhh-huhhhhh, whatever you say.” Hahahaha, I wanted to type what is usually the topic of their conversations, but I realized that I couldn’t remember any of it. What have I been doing? :P.

Thank GOD, my friends at school don’t do that. I think our language consists of lameness, weird things that has happened, and FOOD. HHAHAHA :D
Seeing the differences in the way people talk becomes very obvious in facebook because most people write according to how they talk.

The types of writing I see on facebook are…

For hyper people, they tend to…

1) Emphasizes certain words using loads of capital letters and exclamation marks.
2) Makes weird words like jaajakfdjflfjstks
3) Likes to add the end of words to the main word for example: “Retainer-rers….” Which reminds me of BM. :P
4) Stretches words like “Meeeeeeeee,” or ” you are sho awesomeeee! “

Game addicts normally ‘typ lik dis’. N add emoticons like -.-, =. =, ^. ^ and so and so forth.

The depressed and heartbroken go: “I thought you said you would always be there for me, I will never trust anyone again.”

And of course there are some like me, who hardly says anything on facebook but silently stalks :D

Oh wow. I can’t believe two weeks passed by so fast.
I realized that if I did 90 lifepacs this year, I would be at my level by next year. So this past two weeks I worked really hard, but somehow I only managed to do 3 lifepacs so far. :(

So, I was doing homework and decided to work on my HnG (history and geography). Just the sight of is long and small words makes me want to close it straight away. But after awhile it gets pretty interesting, I get to learn about how the United States constitution protects the freedom of religion, expression, press, public assembly, and petition.

But my favorite part is in the part explaining about the trial by jury. One of the elements of a trial is that “the verdict should be unanimous”.

“The unanimous verdict is designed to remove any doubt as to the guilt or innocence of the accused. It is founded on the idea that although several guilty persons may go unpunished, not one innocent person should ever be unjustly convicted.” –taken from my HNG book.

Do you get it? I think it’s really good. :D

I want to Ikano's Pet Safari yesterday and I saw this awesomely weird animal called, jerboa. It looks like a mouse that decided to copy a kangaroo!

I also saw a whip snake! Its so coooooll!

I really want it as a pet, its small, its green, and its not poisonous! What more can you ask for a snake as a pet?

As I have said, the camp was awesome, but what is even more awesome is what is happening now. My head feels like it is in a muddle, it keeps asking questions, it bugs me even when I want to sleep but at the same time it feels really good, like I can learn more from the same passages that I have already read in the Bible over and over again. My journal is quickly filling up.

Melinda Wong lent me a book called ‘In His Steps’. I have only read half so far, but it’s about a pastor who challenged his some of his congregation to make a promise that for the whole year, they would not do anything without asking “what would Jesus do?” The main characters did what they thought Jesus would do even if it meant losing business or getting bankrupt. Because they believed that their money wasn’t theirs but lent to them by God, like the Parable of the Talents.

The characters asked themselves this: What would Jesus do if He was in my, ______(name)’s place as a ___________(occupation, example: businessman)?

I think that this is a really good question to ask, even though I am just a student, and can’t make such drastic changes or decisions as them. Besides, this year is ending and I think I should ask myself this question so I can do it next year.

What would Jesus do if He was in Maelodee’s place as a student?

1. Respect and obey authority, no more criticizing Teacher Evelyn. (oh uh I hope she doesn’t read this)

2. Be tidy!

3. No complaining.

4. Pay attention during Chapel, or suggest different ways to run it.

5. Not shy away from responsibility or doing it last minute.

6. Love ALL my school friends and pray for them.

I wrote down 6 things and I’m already moaning, “This is going to be so hard.” Even doing one of them for a whole year is going to be a challenge for me. But anyway, I WILL TRY MY BEST

Camp… was AWESOME!!!!

Our camp’s name was “R U SERIOUS” and the theme was Apologetics.

On the starting day Ps. Dan said that God says it’s okay to argue (reason) with Him (somewhere in Isaiah). During the camp he gave us the evidences and arguments for whatever questions we asked. For example, “Is the Bible real?” or “Why is there so many different denominations of churches.” Some questions we learn by going to different interesting stations.

I have learned a lot.

Anyway, I WANT *whoa! am I serious?!* to go study now, and see whether I can hopefully study for SAT or whatever the same time as my other friends are studying for SPM then I wouldn’t feel so alone. I’m going to study like crazzyyy starting now!

What is Newlife & Alpha? Part of the requirements of becoming a member is to go through a whole bunch of courses. Two of these courses are Newlife and Alpha. These past two years (or so) Zara kept asking me to go but I kept avoiding it. I was hoping that I wouldn’t have to do it until maybe 2 or 3 years later because it sounded boring. However; Ps. Dan said that to come for camp this year we must go through the courses, and camp is one thing that I always look forward to each year. So oh well, I went for it, and found that…..

It’s not so bad after all! :D it is actually quite interesting and informative (and they provide milo). My only problem is trying to stay awake in the morning. I suggest you bring coffee or something.

It has helped me in getting more out of doing devotion, memorizing verses, and writing my own testimony! :D:D Yay!

At the 1994 annual awards dinner given for Forensic Science, AAFS President Dr Don Harper Mills astounded his audience with the legal complications of a bizarre death.

Thus the story: -------- On March 23, 1994...... The medical examiner viewed the body of Ronald Opus, and concluded that he died from a shotgun wound to the head. Mr. Opus had jumped from the top of a ten story building intending to commit suicide. He left a note to the effect indicating his despondency.

As he fell past the 9th floor, his life was interrupted by a shotgun blast passing through a window, which killed him instantly. Neither the shooter nor the deceased was aware that a safety net had been installed just below the 8th floor level to protect some building workers and that Ronald Opus would not have been able to complete his suicide the way he had planned. 'Ordinarily,' Dr Mills continued, 'Someone who sets out tocommit suicide and ultimately succeeds, even though the mechanism might not be what he intended, is still defined as committing suicide.' That Mr. Opus was shot on the way to certain death, but probably would not have been successful because of the safety net, caused the medical examiner to feel that he had a "homicide" on his hands.

The room on the 9th floor, where the shotgun blast emanated, was occupied by an elderly man and his wife. They were arguing vigorously, and he was threatening her with a shotgun! The man was so upset that when he pulled the trigger, he completely missed his wife, and the pellets went through the window, striking Mr Opus. When one intends to kill subject 'A' but kills subject 'B' in the attempt, one is guilty of the murder of subject 'B.'

When confronted with the murder charge, the old man and his wife were both adamant, and both said that they thought the shotgun was not loaded. The old man said it was a long standing habit to threaten his wife with the unloaded shotgun. He had no intention to murder her. Therefore the killing of Mr. Opus appeared to be an accident; that is, assuming the gun had been accidentally loaded.

The continuing investigation turned up a witness who saw the old couple's son loading the shotgun about six weeks prior to the fatal accident. It also transpired that the old lady had cut off her son's financial support and the son, knowing the propensity of his father to use the shotgun threateningly, loaded the gun with the expectation that his father would shoot his mother. Since the loader of the gun was aware of this, he was guilty ofthe murder even though he didn't actually pull the trigger.The case now becomes one of murder on the part of the son for the death of RonaldOpus.

Now comes the exquisite twist: Further investigation revealed that the son was, in fact, Ronald Opus. He had become increasingly despondent over the failure of his attempt to engineer his mother's murder. This led him to jump off the ten-story building on March 23rd, only to be killed by a shotgun blast passing through the 9th story window.

The son, Ronald Opus, had actually murdered himself. So the medical examiner closed the case as a suicide.

I wanted to search for murder pictures to match the story above but didn’t want it to be too gruesome so I typed ‘murder sketch’ and found this picture.

Doesn’t this picture just make you feel like crying? After all, who gives us the power to send people to execute others? Do you think that when the Bible tells us that Jesus forgave our sins he meant only those who steal, or lie, but left out the murderers?

Today in class, some of my classmates were talking about this guy who got imprisoned for I think 12 years should be killed instead. I didn’t know what to say, but I knew it was wrong. My thoughts went to the book that I just read, called ‘Taming the Tiger’.

‘Taming the Tiger’ is an autobiography (an autobiography is when you write about your own personal life) and the author (who is also the main character) was a dangerous criminal, and when he was caught and sent to jail, struggled with his sins and felt like he could never redeem himself. Until a pastor started visiting him in prison, finally after a few weeks, the author accepted Jesus into his life and found that all the weight of his sins were gone. Later on, he has a great testimony to share and brought many souls to Christ. Think what would have happened if someone had wanted to play god and decided to end his life?

Okay, enough, my thoughts have been expressed.

My brain is fried and sizzling like an tamago (egg). Mmm,I love eggs.

Why? You ask? Because, thanks to the USELESS Awards Night practices, my laziness, and a few other factors, I had to rush to finish my final lifepac today. A lot of pressure there but to add to it, we had (in my opinion) a boring art class from morning till tea break (I studied for my lifepac while art class). Immediately after the break instead of doing the lifepac, I had to sit for a math test. The teacher that composed this quiz said that the point of the quiz is “to do what you can as fast as you can” and gave us 10 pages. After the math quiz which I did not have time to finish completely, we went for lunch. During lunch Angelina, Jamie, and me were studying for our lifepacs and getting all stressed. After eating, we headed back to the classroom to find that we needed to do a L.A. quiz (language arts, English) before we could sit for our lifepacs. This time the teacher gave 12 pages. Learning from my mistake with the math, I rapidly answered the questions until my fingers hurt :(. Knowing that I would not be able to finish my last lifepac if I ended the quiz too late, I decided that my lifepac was more worth it, and handed in my L.A. quiz. Sitting for my final lifepac was a tremendous, overwhelming, RELIEF. Having studied the whole day form my lifepac, I knew all the answers except for one careless mistake and the details of the definitions.

I got 92% and completed a total of 8 lifepacs this month with 6 of them over 90%

Sorry Teacher Daniel, no offence meant, I dislike art not you.

FLIP (Floating Instrument Platform) is the US Navy's oldest, and most unusual, research vessel. FLIP's unique design is like a baseball bat, and it allows it to be the only vessel in the world that can operate both horizontally and vertically.

Scientific instruments are built sideways into the wall so that as the buoy flips, the instruments flip into a usable position as well. Most rooms on FLIP have two doors; one to use when horizontal, and the other when FLIP is vertical. Bunk beds, toilets, and stoves are built on swivels and gimbals, so they will turn along with the buoy, but the things that would not rotate so well, like sinks, are built both horizontally and vertically in each room.

FLIP was created in 1962 by scientists Dr. Fred Fisher and Dr. Fred Spiess, who wanted a more stable space than a normal research ship to study wave forms. FLIP can operate equally well in shallow water or depths of over 2,000 fathoms.

Smile 101

Last Sunday I went for a course in my church called “Smiile 101.” I was hesitant when my dad wanted to sign my whole family up for it because I thought it would be like the church membership course. But WHEEEEEE! It was Pastor Victor! Basically we learned how to share the Gospel and write a personal testimony. Smile stands for, S-Scan M-Move I-Initiate L-Linger E-Exit.

Halfway through his teaching, he asked us (in groups) to go to different shopping malls, approach a stranger, buy them a drink, talk with them and maybe slip in the personal testimony. Apparently this was supposed to be training to be friendly. I was in the same team as my two brothers and we were told to go to Bangsar Shopping Center.

When we reached there I made David talk to someone, and he approached the receptionist, and offered to buy him a coke. The guy refused, saying that he had just come back from his break. So we headed off to Cold Storage and we bought a Gatorade and a Coke. We gave the Gatorade to the receptionist, learned his name was Harry, talked for a very short while, and got a picture with him.

After taking the picture, I took the Coke and started talking to a pregnant lady named Yi En (I hope that’s how you spell it) with two little kids and a maid. She gave it to her little girl called Isabella and started talking to me. Apparently she used to go to SIBKL, but left it. Anyway yeah, then we took a picture and went off.

Soon David and me were bugging Michael to talk to someone. After trying Sony, and almost talking to a guy standing around, he finally started talking with this Scottish guy named John (or Jordan). David and I stood at the back cheering. :P

Soon it was time to leave, and we have decided that it wasn’t so hard to talk to a stranger after all. Now I know something I can do if I’m bored in a mall :D:D

Yesterday, (Saturday) I started making poems and at the same time watching Zara make something on the Windows Media Player. THANKYOU ZARA! It'll probably save me a LOT of time from using only the powerpoint thing.

Anyway the poems:

Poem I am to make

It is as hard as cake

Then Zara suggested that I do a sonnet. Which had 9 syllables in each line. I'm not sure whether this is correct, but, every line has 9 syllables and end in 'est' :)

Down flew the happy bird from its nest.

Snatching many midnight snacks with zest.

Poor little worms a survival test.

Back into the hole no time to jest.

Back to your nest for a time of rest

Rest littlte bird then give your best

Different views

I’ve been wanting to write this post for quite some time, but It got delayed due to a LOT of stuff.

I was reading a C.S.Lewis book, ‘Out of the Silent Planet.’ It is really good, and his English is superb, however; the pages were filled with so many long tiny words and complicated descriptive sentences that I almost gave up before finishing the first few pages. But after awhile, I got used to it and managed to finish the whole book. Wow, it is amazing.

Anyway there was this part on page58 where he was describing an alien.

“Then it became abominable-a man seven feet high with a snaky body, covered, face and all, with thick black animal hair, and whiskered like a cat. But starting from the other end you had an animal with everything an animal ought to have-glassy coat, liquid eye, sweet breath, and whitest teeth- and added to all these, as though Paradise had never been lost and earliest dreams were true, the charm of speech and reason. Nothing could be more disgusting than the one impression; nothing more delightful than the other. It all depended on the point of view.”

This is what I’ve been trying to say since, a long long time ago! It just depends on your view of things. One of the common examples is whether the glass is half empty or half full. If a girl asks me whether her hair is messy, to me it probably wouldn’t look messy, and to another person it might look extremely messy.

Yeah, anyway, my L.A. made me do an essay on Connotative Differences. Basically I had to think of a situation, and make two reports, one good and one bad.

Here’s what I wrote:

John Smith is said to pick up and cook dogs, cats, or even racoons that have been run over by cars. Living next to a highway, John often finds his lunch right outside his house. There’s nothing wrong, as it is after all, free meat.

John Smith has been spotted scraping up animals that have become roadkill and eat it. This uncivilized act is horrible and sooner or later, bring disease. Eating roadkill is a barbarous action that stains the wonderful image of our country.

Yeah, there you see, the same situation, just viewed differently. Look how easily words can mislead someone, so be careful not to believe everything you read.

Amazing Race.

Hahaha.

I will start off saying that, it has always been my dream to go on the Amazing Race. When I was just a little kid, probably only half of my current height, I begged(nagged) my brothers to take me to go on the Amazing Race. But they wouldn’t take me, saying that half way I’ll probably get them to carry me, which is true. They then said, “You go with your boyfriend lahhh.” So I made up my mind that I would. :D

A few weeks ago, my teacher reminded us that we had to do an essay, the tittle “How I Spent My Holiday.” The holiday was a long looooong time ago, and I couldn’t remember what I did, so teacher said that it could be fictional. I started by writing about a robbery in my house, but then I thought to myself, “How am I supposed to catch the thief within 2 weeks?” So I changed topic, it became, “I went to the Amazing Race with my brother.”(which I posted unto my blog. Btw, change the word brother to boyfriend)

When I found out that nst had organized an Amazing Race, obviously I signed up. But I couldn’t go with my boyfriend as my brothers have suggested. (cause I haven’t gotten one yet, hahahaha J, proud of myself) Anyway, for the Amazing Race, we were supposed to sign up in groups of 4 and one person was supposed to be non-Christian, or the other option was to tick a box that said “I don’t have a group.” Since I was a bit too lazy to form a group, ( I’m not sure why I don’t like forming groups. I don’t pick the person that I want to sit with in the bus the day before the field trip. I don’t deliberately pick who I want to sit with at lunch, that just became a habit after awhile.) and I don’t have any non-Christian friends, I ticked the little box.

On Sunday morning, I went to the church wondering who my race partners were. I soon found out, that two of them were siblings, Rebecca and Timothy. The first thing I heard Rebecca say to Timothy was, “There, she’s in our team, the one who complained very loud yesterday.” Which was true, hahaha oops. After that they kind of ignored me when I talked to them, so I don’t think they liked me.(I don’t blame them.) Soon, the committee realized that our 4^th member, a person with a Chinese name, wasn’t going to show up. So they transferred me to another group that had Hao Yen, Li Jin, and Clement. *relieved* It was kind of ironic, as the past few weeks, Hao Yen was asking me whose team I was going to be in, and I had to tell him again and again that I ticked the ‘no team’ box, but in the end I ended up in his team.

For the first clue, we got the J=2 thing but we couldn’t guess the word. The whole ride to the zoo we were trying to figure out which animal had _I_ _O_O_A_U_. Only at the entrance of the zoo, Hao Yen pointed out to the statues and said, “Look, turtles.” Then I said, “Look, hippopo--- ohhhh…” and that was how we managed to figure out our first clue, quite funny if you were actually there.

Then Basically, the rest of the Amazing race went like this,

-Rush to Amphibian and Reptile House

-Find Sasha

-Show her picture of us with the animals in the clues

-Get our next clue

-Figure out the riddles

-Try to find the animals

-Walk

-Laugh as we get lost and have to backtrack

-Take picture with all the animal plates

-Walk, walk, walk

-Laugh at the international school accents, go wrong way, backtrack

-Walkwalkwalkwalkwalk

-Rush around looking for groups to do the intersection

-WALK

-Find Sasha

-Get our next clue.

And so on… We walked (running was against the rules) for 3 hours only stopping to drink water for a little while, ate lunch for half an hour, then walked again, hardly stopping, for 1 ½ hours. We walked a lot, laughed a lot, and backtracked a lot. Since we didn’t win, I so so regret not taking pictures of the animals and my team.

My legs hurt, good job committee. (: haha

Imagine, if your company sold toothpaste, what methods would you use to convince the consumers to buy your toothpaste brand instead of the others? The methods you would use to advertise your product is called propaganda. Propaganda is a way of communicating opinions or beliefs through using many methods or tricks of advertising. It is very interesting and there are so many techniques that it could fill a book. A few of them are:

1. To belong

2. Black or white fallacy

“Look! Everybody has a Smart watch, join them, visit ‘toys r us’ today!” This is an example of the method, to belong. It is a simple and yet very effective method. Most people want to belong to something, a group, or just to fit in with the crowd. “To belong” simply tells the consumer that “everyone is having it; therefore if you want to belong, buy it”. Many times the quality of a less advertised brand is equally as good, yet people will pay dollars more for the name brand because it implies they belong.

Transfer, the reader is urged to accept something because a famous or well-known person’s name is associated with it. In other words, sometimes a company pays a famous person to say something on their commercial so that the fans would feel an urge to buy that product. Sometimes it can be really dumb, I think there was one where a famous guy was asked to advertise pads, and what’s worse is some girls really did buy it. -.-‘’

Let me ask you a question. If a teenager friend said that he really loved computer games, what would be his ambition?

A game maker?

WRONG.

It would probably be a game TESTER! Definition? A computer game tester is a person whose profession consists of testing video and computer games in order to find bugs, errors and possible conflicts as a quality control process. It’s easy, you get money, plus you get to enjoy it, waayyyyy before anybody else. Thus, this is a dream job for many teenage guys. (Was for my brother as well. haha)

Do I want to become a game tester? Definitely not. I cannot even make it through an RPG game without the help of cheats and a complete and thorough walkthrough. Most of the time even with those helps, I get stuck and give up.

My ambition is, *drumrolls*... to be a BOOK tester! ( I’m not sure whether there’s such a term as I made it up.) My definition: A book tester is a person who reads unpublished books, reject them if they’re not good enough, and get paid. Basically getting paid to read books. Why Books? Like the guys love computer games, I love books. Fiction, mystery, adventure, romance, comics, inspiring books, and, of course, the Bible, almost all have been read for at least 3 times. Most of them dumped into 2 large cardboard boxes, as I have used all my cupboard space to keep the more precious and important ones.

No, this is not mine, just a random picture found on Google.

Reasons why I want to be a book tester?

1. Not enough money to buy the books for myself.

2. Stop other people from paying money and then becoming unsatisfied with some books. (like I was)

3. I can “work” at home with 3 large dogs to keep me company. (:

Fictional essay on Amazing Race

This is a fictional essay on how I spent my holidays.

I spent my holiday going on the famous television show, the “Amazing Race” with my brother. Before the race, we met the other contestants and found out that we were competing against 7 other couples. My brother was so enthusiastic that when our host said we could start, he was the first to reach and tear open the clue.

London

Our clue ordered us to take the first flight to London and head towards the London Bridge. After a little trouble with our taxi driver, we reached the London Bridge and found that we were supposed to bungee jump off the London Bridge together. Scared but excited, we counted to three and jumped off together, screaming the whole way down. Our next clue told us to go to Big Ben, and count all the steps. We counted the 334 steps and got it right the first time. We hurried to the pit stop which was at the Buckingham Palace and arrived in third place.

Amsterdam

The next day we were ordered by the our clue to fly to Amsterdam, and collect our the next clue at Poezenboot. Poezenboot is an unusual flea market and is home to an incredibly large number of homeless cats. Our clue told us to clean at least 10 cat cages. Wow, did they stink, my brother and me were utterly disgusted after just 2 cages. But we finished it and headed to where the next clue told us to go. We were instructed to row our own boat down the Brouwersgracht, one of the beautiful canals in Amsterdam. Finallly, we headed to the Old Center for the pitstop. We reached there in first place! We earned free tickets to New Zealand for free!

Antananarivo

Waking up early in the morning we headed for Antananarivo, the capital of Madagascar. Reaching there, we visited the Tsimbazaza Zoo, where we were given the tasks to spot a fossa and feed a group of lemurs. Spotting the fossa was easy, but while we were trying to feed the lemurs, they became aggressive and started attacking us. My brother and I ran but I stumbled and broke my ankle. The zoo keeper reached us in time to drive away the lemurs, but I could not walk. The Amazing Race host sent us back home with extra free holiday tickets and a lot of cash. Probably hoping we won’t sue them for sending us into a dangerous environment.

Big Ben.

I was searching for information on it online, (to write my Amazing Race story), and I stumbled on this great article. It’s interesting and contains facts, (everything I find missing in the STAR). I would gladly be a journalist if I could write like this. But anyway, if I cant write like this, I’ll just be a book tester. :D

For 13 years Brian Davis was the official clock-tower guide for the Palace of Westminster. Recently retired, in his working life he took more than 7,000 tours up the 315ft Gothic tower that is home to the bell called Big Ben, climbing the 334 spiralling stone stepsfive times a day. In the process he took more than 5 million steps up and down, clocking up the equivalent of 76 ascents of Everest.

"I was smoking 80 cigarettes a day at the time, too," he says. "But when I had a medical the doctor said I had the blood pressure of an 18-year-old. Once I got all the way up to the belfry and dropped the keys, which meant going all the way back down and up again. My best time was one minute 26 seconds."

Mr Davis never ceases to be amazed that most people seem to know so little about Big Ben and its tower and the fact that they can apply for a tour through their local MP. (Parties are restricted to 16 and children must be over 11.)

He has escorted the blind and deaf, a man paralysed from the waist down who crawled the entire way for charity, and a man who had just had open-heart surgery. One person had a turn at the top. He soon recovered but the ambulance man who had to climb the steps after him was in a terrible state by the time he reached the top. And, of course, it's not just a physical feat. Vertigo can strike at any time. From the top, the bottom of the stairwell looks like a postage stamp. The most terrified man he ever encountered, Mr Davis says, turned out to be a jumbo jet pilot.

When asked about any famous visitors, he says: "I once took Prince William and his school class up, and the former prime minister James Callaghan came up with his grandchildren in crash helmets and a hoist."

He was always surprised to see people walk past Big Ben every day and check their watches by it, without a thought for its history. "Beyond telling the time, people don't know much about London's most famous landmark."

Which is not something anybody who spends an hour or so in Mr Davis's company could ever be accused of. He has a head for facts and figures, as well as heights. Big Ben, he tells me, reeling off the numbers, weighs 13.5 tonnes, is 8.8ft in diameter and 7.2ft high. Designed by Edmund Denison, MP QC, and the Astronomer Royal Sir George Airey, and made for £1,800 by EJ Dent, the first bell was even bigger, but was scrapped after it cracked during tests. The second, cast at Whitechapel Foundry where America's Liberty Bell was cast, first sounded on 11 July 1859. It was first heard on radio on New Year's Eve in 1923 (the microphone was inside a football bladder) and made its first television appearance in 1949.

The tower is made from Cornish granite, Caen stone and Yorkshire Anstone stone, and each 23ft-diameter clock face contains 312 pieces of pot opal glass. The copper-sheet minute hands are 13.7ft long and their tips travel 118 miles in a year. Until 1913 the clock was wound by hand, which took 30 hours a week, but this is now done by an electric motor. Until 1900 the dials of the four faces were illuminated by gas burners.

Mr Davis's enthusiasm for his subject is infectious, and he found his true calling as Big Ben's guide. Born near the Tower of London, the son of a policeman, he had a variety of jobs before finding his niche. He started his working life as a newspaper copy boy, moving on to become a soup deliveryman before taking the post of warden at the Science Museum. In 1968 he became a general dogsbody at the Houses of Parliament.

As he outlines the history of Big Ben, his anecdotes add colour. It turns out it was named after either a famous heavyweight Victorian boxer, Benjamin Caunt, or the Commissioner of Works, Sir Benjamin Hall. The bell, which arrived by river after very nearly sinking the boat, was dragged to the site by 16 white horses.

This morning, in the car and on the way to church, my dad was forcing me to listen to the 101 principles by Mr. Idontrememberhisname, and I’ll just call him Blah, because he talks a lot.

Moving on, Blah was telling a story of how a lady driving her car stopped at the traffic light but then her engine died and it was pretty embarrassing for her. While she tried her best to start the car, the other cars moved around and used the other lanes except for the car right behind her. The man inside that car started honking at her. After a while, the lady paused, rather vexed, and walked over to the other car. The man wound down his window in surprise. The lady leaned over and said, “Why don’t you help me start my car while I sit here and lean on the horn?”

Well, it’s a good story with a good lesson; “Put yourself in the shoes of others before you get angry or impatient with them.”

But let’s think, what if you were that lady. Your car died in the middle of the road and you’re trying to restart it, and someone is honking irritably behind you. Do you get down and say “Why don’t you help me start my car while I sit here and lean on the horn?” Is that reasonable? What will you accomplish by doing that? What will happen while you scold the person behind you?

Here are 7 simple things that might have happened if you stopped to get down of the car and scold the man.

1. The man would open the window and swear at you, possibly in some other language you don’t know.

2. The man would say “no thanks” and drive away laughing.

3. The man, suddenly getting it into his thick head that it’s easier to just go around your car, drives off while you stand there with your mouth open.

4. After you finish scolding him, you return to your car hot, sweaty, angry, and still not able to start the engine.

5. A man on a motorcycle snatches your hand bag ( if you had carried it down from the car)

6. People will see you and get angry that you stop in the middle of the road to talk, and they will start honking at you.

And my favorite,

7. A thief comes, restarts your engine, and drives off in your car.

Moral of the story of the story?

Sometimes it’s better not to get angry and scold others.

40 days fast and prayer

So, what have I been up to?

~ I started the 40 days fast and prayer on August 8

What am I fasting? Two things.

Social networking meaning facebook, tweeter, and youtube with the exception of blogger and hotmail.

It is not very easy, especially when my brother leaves his facebook and his monitor on. The facebook page beckons me to come closer, to sit in the computer chair, to check my account. “Its only once, what harm can it do?” it coaxes. BUT NO! I SHALL NOT! I will refrain from social networking for the rest of the 40 days! “I CAN DO ALL THINGS THROUGH CHRIST WHO STRENGHTENS ME!”

I am especially proud that I am also fasting meat! Yes, M.E.A.T.! For a whole 40 days! I’m a total meat lover, I would complain like crazy if my lunch didn’t have meat. But yeap, I love God much more than meat.

Unfortunately, I know two times which I unknowingly broke the fast. On the first day, I was eating nasi lemak, and forgot that ikan bilis was considered meat. Then for lunch I was eating tasty fried tofu, when I reached back home, my mom mentioned to me that actually they mixed fish paste with the tofu to make it tastier.

Apart from that, I managed to refrain from eating meat, even at school where everyone else was eating fried chicken, chicken nuggets, chicken chop, fish and chips, and more. My first-rate caterer, Aunty Alice, cooks vegetarian for me. Which is basically substituting egg, mushrooms, tofu, or fu chok (don’t know how to spell), for meat. I’m practically living off eggs now, and getting quite fed up of it.

The temptations.

On the first night, I dreamt that I was using facebook. On the second night, I dreamt that I was eating lamb shank, I could taste it in my dream. Mmm, the wonderful lamb meat on my tongue, and lovely mushroom sauce.

In school, my “friend” brought marinated lamb ribs, and “accidentally” blew the smell into my face. Oh how close I was to salivating, as though I haven’t eaten meat for decades.

When I went for Angelyn’s surprise birthday party, I was surrounded by loads of meat, especially SAUSAGES! Grilled sausages, small sausages on sticks with cucumbers, wrinkled sausages, and JUICY-LOOKING SAUSAGES!! The lure of loaded plates heaped with grilled chicken! The pizza! The rich, wonderful, and terribly enticing smell that kept finding its way to my nose!

However, I managed to resist my urge to eat any of those, and tenaciously stuck with eating only potato salad, nachos, and TOASTED MARSHMELLOWS.

Now having survived that, I find that I have more determination than before, because I can say to myself, “if you eat that, then you have just wasted the opportunity to eat those sausages.” (I don’t get to eat sausages very often.)

So far I am only at the 13^th day, GOD PLEASE HELP ME! Sometimes when I think it’s impossible to resist the longing for the rest of the 40 days, I’ll remember the famous verse, “Nothing is impossible with God.”

1 thing I learnt today :

GOOD SERVICE IS VERY IMPORTANT especially for restaurants. Even if the food is great, if the waiters decide to ignore the customers who are calling, the customers would most likely hate that place, and tell others about the bad service.

But even if the customers do come back(forced), they will still remember how they had to walk to to the counter to ask for the menu.

I am the customer and I HATE CANTON KITCHEN!.

Sketchbook Express

Yesterday night, my brother downloaded for me a program that is made specially for the wacom tablet.

Its called Sketchbook Express.

I drew two pictures :)

This is about the song "Amazing Grace". I didn't even think about drawing it.

I just started with drawing waves by smudging them, then the clouds, then I realized that I was singing the "Amazing Grace" song.

"Amazing Grace" was composed by John Newton, he was a captain of a slave ship.

Some stories say that he was lost and thought he couldn't get his ship out from the storm in one piece, then he prayed to God to have mercy, and he found his way out.

Other stories say that he was swept overboard the boat in a huge storm, then in the waters he cried out to God to save him, and he got swept back unto the boat again.

After that he became a minister and composed the song "Amazing Grace"

HELLO! I've just finished reading a book called Daddy-Long-Legs. Which I bought from Payless Bookstore Warehouse Sale. I bought like 42 books from there for $189 around $4 a book :)

Anyway, if I recall correctly, I read about Daddy-Long-Legs in my L.A. book, something about it being the first book made up almost entirely of letters.

When I say letters I mean letters you send to people, not the letters that make up a sentence.

Daddy-Long-Legs is about an orphan girl, who is noticed by a benefactor who wants to send her to college, but she is not told who he is and to address him as Mr. Smith. She must also write him letters every month to tell her about her studies.

She wants a family and so she nicknames him Daddy-Long-Legs.

The book is made up of her letters to him, and there is no reply at all.

But her letters are so cute!!

There is this part where she says,

I went to bed last night utterly dejected; I thought I was never going to amount to anything, and that you had thrown away your money for nothing. But what do you think? I woke up this morning with a beautiful new plot in my head, and I've been going about all day planning my characters, just as happy as I could be. No one can ever accuse me of being a pessimist! If I had a husband and twelve children swallowed by an earth quake one day, I'd bob up smilingly the next morning and commence to look for another set.

And another part,

Youth has nothing to do with birthdays only with alivedness of spirit, so if your hair is gray, Daddy, you can still be a boy.

Hello! :)

I'm watching this show on animal planet called " Beverly hills groomer".

It is a series that shows this guy who won the "groomer has it" and is now trying to build his own buisness.

Wow it looks hard.

Anyway, His name is Artist Knox, and he drives around in this grooming-van thingi, around Beverly hills grooming celeberity's dogs.

Anyway, I admire that he doesn't give up on his beliefs,

He believes in "one for me and one for free"
which means that after he finishes grooming a dog for the celeberities,

he then grooms a dog for free from an animal shelter or something like that.

He also is a single father to his two year old son.

Then he got this financial adviser, who says that he needs to stop his "one for me and one for free thing" cause its taking his time and money. Then he also tells Artist that he should work for longer hours, which means that he cannot see his son so often.

If you ask me I would fire that financial adviser :D

But anyway, Artist did not follow that guy's advise, instead he continued to do what he believed was more important than his buisness.

Anyway here's my essay on " If I ruled a country, I would..."

actually I didn't get to send it in for the competition because my teacher said that I didn't follow the title and wanted me to rewrite the WHOLE thing. Which I couldn't finish on time.

Well it is true that I didn't follow the title, I was writing more about how I'd want my country to look like than what I would do.

If I ruled a country I would…

My country is an island that is shaped like a ring. With shining, water in the middle where the finger is supposed to be. The name for my country is Aquarius, which is a constellation that means “water-bearer” in Latin. My country has a tropical climate, with exotic fruits. Most of the inhabitants have mostly dark brown or black wavy hair and eyes in many different shades of blue. Their mother tongue is English, they love poetry and are very artistic. We are known for always being cheerful and laughing.

The stone is called Aquamarine. Most of the farming and mining is done there. The rest of the island is simply named and divided into North, East, West, and Central. In the North, clean, beautiful, beaches and coral reefs are found. On most beaches, comfy hammocks beckon invitingly for you to rest on it. There are also trained, friendly dolphin and giant turtle rides for tourists, it’s a once in a lifetime experience, only rather costly. In the East, there are docks that are always busy, building, repairing, loading and unloading ships or ferries. To the West, are many multicolored fishing boats, big and small, most people aim to catch the famous golden flying fish, which are only found in the waters near Aquarius. There are also breathtaking sunsets that never seem to repeat themselves.

Central, my capital, is a water town, hotels, restaurants, and walkways are built on the water, they are held up by stable, metal cylinders that floats whatever that is built on top without rocking it, and is not easily broken. The city is specially planned and built for getting around on thin, light, canoes that can be rented cheaply. But there are cement pathways and bridges which you can walk or ride bikes on, however there are absolutely no cars. The walls of the buildings are often spray painted with colors and designs that vary from which part of the town you are in. Creepers with small, sweet smelling flowers crawl up walls and underneath the bridges. The fastest way to get from one place to another is by colorful hot air balloons which many tourists love.

The tax on restaurants and hotels are 10% government tax and have 5% service tax. Half of the government tax would go to helping other countries that are in trouble from natural disasters. I encourage industries to be competitive and give incentives for the employees. We take pollution of air, water, soil, radioactive wastes, or littering very seriously. Punishment could go from a $500 fine to being exiled from the country. Accepting bribes will be seriously punished. Neighborhoods are very secure, so that parents don’t have to worry about their children’s safety. I do not allow music that has bad or totally meaningless lyrics to simply come into my beloved country and influence it.

From ages 6 to 18, public education is free and compulsory. They will study history about the wars, and other countries, not just about Aquarius. Methods of teaching are interesting, for example, shooting games are used to teach about the Revolutionary War and movies for the lives of famous people. The passing mark for major tests will be 70%. My birthday (3^rd of July) is a holiday, to celebrate; all the public schools get free unlimited ice cream and people are allowed to play with fireworks all night. Mondays are holidays, but everyone is required to go to church for the first part of the day. Apart from the usual Christian holidays like Easter and Christmas, there are many unique festivals, like the Balloons Week, where bright colored balloons are hung up on the streets, making Aquarius look fun. On the last day of the week, the little children are allowed to pop or keep the balloons. On Hip Hop week, many citizens and foreigners sign up to participate in the big hip hop dance competitions where everybody pays around $10 and the winner gets the whole sum. There are also canoe races, in which everyone gets very competitive.

Many beautiful events happen at night like, Meteor Night, because there is hardly any pollution, the skies are very clear, and the stars seem to smile and sparkle at you all the time, and there is a day once every year that we can watch meteors shoot across the night sky with their bright tails flashing behind. There is another event called, Butterfly Nights, which happens on August 8^th until the 10^th, there will be small lanterns on the streets at Central, and everyone will switch off their lights at night and watch at their windows. Then a lot of glowing blue butterflies and smaller yellow butterflies will come out and play, chasing one another, peeping into windows, and skimming across the waters. A rumor is that if you make a wish on the first blue butterfly that you see, you will get your wish. On the last night, everyone will come out and play with the butterflies. But the moment someone tries to catch them, they will all fly away and not appear until the next year.

But then when I was bathing just now, the song or something or maybe its a verse, came into my head, something bout giving all the glory to God.

Which made me remember that half way through this month, I was scared that I couldnt finish my lifepacs, so during devotion time I asked(more like pleaded with) God to give me perseverance and the ability to focus to finish it.

So here I am and I want to tell everyone who reads my blog ( if anyone does at all) that I couldn't have done it without God.

Okayyy, so when I went to school, I was determined to work hard and finish 2 lpts (for those of you who don't know what this means, too bad, don't bother bout it)

But then I found out that we were supposed to be doing art, something bout a photoframe, and I and alot of other people forgot to bring the materials.

So we had to stand through an hour of lecturing by Teacher Evelyn, and only after 45 mins she realized that we were standing and allowed us to sit for the remaining 15 mins.

So anyway, I managed to complete my 2 lpts and brings my total lpcs number to 7! yay! just 3 more!

Straight after school, my brother came to pick Jamie and me up, and take us to 1U to go to

camp 5.

It is awesome I tell you!

actually I was prepared to pay RM18 for the admission fee and RM12 for the renting of the harness and shoes. But then we found out that first timers dont have to pay admission fees :D

YAY so anyway I climbed for 4 hours with Jamie and her friend and at the end her bro taught me some climbing techniques.

Its so fun lah.

Especially the swinging one! :D

Then after that went with my bro to Melissa's cell. They were talking about what I had already learned in sunday service last week. So I started thinking, isn't God good? Normally when the son of the King is in trouble, the King sends all his men to save the son. and ofcorse alot of them die in the process. But God send his son to save us. :)

well anyway, we left early and I had to play loud PlanetShaker music on the way back from my bro.

I'M TIREDDDDD!!! :(

Yesterday I was in church since 9:45 am for worship orientation, 12:15 or so went to eat at the mamak, then rush back to try to make it for prayer 105 then 2:00 nst. 5:00 to 5:30 went to adult service just for the worship. 5:30 come down for briefing for quite a long time. Then help usher people (to the toilet) until around 8:20. Then I accidentally gave out the salvation packs too early. oops. sorry. :)

anyway after that come back home at around 11:00.

Seee? I was in church for more than 12 hours.

I'm feeling abit guilty for talking so little about the 7 stations, but I still can't find the inspiration to write more about it. So I shall just write about God's faithfulness and immutability. Which anyway was also in one of the stations.

Btw it's taken from what I had to write in my Bible lifepac.

Today

I'm SO PROUD OF MYSELF!!! I forced myself to STUDY and STUDY AND STUDY. For the entire time that I was supposed to be studying! YAY. + I had the irritating Justin Bieber song "Baby" going on in my head while I was trying to memorize the answer to the question

But anyway, Angie asked me to please update my blog. Hahaha yea I guess that's a good idea.

Alicia just lent me Inkheart. I already finished more than half the book. at page 195 now. hahaha oh and I'm expected to write a book report by tonight or *jeng jeng* Punishment = finish it tomorow at school. Which I think is awesome. I'm planning to do it in school. :)

Yatta! P.E.!! thursdays are my favorite and most dreaded day of the week. the reason why I dislike it is cause I have piano class on that day, but I dont know why I dont like it, cause I reach there i dont mind it at all. Must be a mental thing.

Last Saturday

We had cell outing at Celine Wong's house. 25 + people. Her house is fabulously awesome and huge (by the way I just learned from my LA that "fabulous" comes from the root word "fable" hmmm...) It had this awesome jam room. with three diff types of guitars,drums, and piano. Oh and a dog that looks like a live teddy bear.

Then we took loads of pictures (alot of trouble came from that cause i forgot to bring it to dawn's house before her dad was fetching us.) anyway I finally have an awesome picture of Dawn looking lala. HAHAHHAHHAHAHAHA if you annoy me i'll post it on fb :)

Coming Saturday

Seven stations of the cross. CANT WAIT! But my mom has hinted to me abit about doing something incredibly disgusting unless I'm smart enough. or something like that. hmm I'm supposed to find out from zara what time it ends but I'm procastinating. :)

Oh, ya I went for two auditions in a day, I have a new-found respect for those people who we laugh at on American Idol.

HAha, yes, I know, I was supposed to do the 8 days in China thing, but the pictures are still messed up. The post will come soon!

Guess what! i'm going to do a post on Corrie Ten Boom, because my IRRITATING Language. Arts. book required me to do a summary of it.

Here it is!

Corrie Ten Boom was a daughter of a watchmaker, even though they were quite poor, they were very happy. But one day, the Germans started attacking Holland. After five days,
Holland surrendered. The Germans gave them curfews, identity cards, and ration cards. Soon there were attacks on the Jews. The German would suddenly sweep through a block of buildings and take every male between sixteen and thirty to work in German factories. Soon they were arresting all the Jews, so Corrie made a special place in her house to hide the Jews. Unfortunately, the Germans found out and took her and her family to prison. The prison wardens and the treatment there were horrible. But Corrie and her sister, Betsie tried their best to share the Word Of God. They were shifted from prison to prison. Soon, Corrie's father and sister died. Finally Corrie was released, she then opened a house for the people who were hurt, to recover and forgive the Germans.

It's quite a good book, you should read. YES YOU!

Oh *smiles* I can't wait for Easter! Even though I didn't get in the audition! HAHA it'll be fun! trust me! I didn't know there were so many people who loved ghost stories in my school *shocked* how can anybody love ghost stories?!!.

Well, I'm going to rewrite my "paragraph" from the previous post on Beijing. The reason being, is that, when I read it, I can hear my L.A. (languange arts) book screaming at me, "What happened to your margins?!", "Your sentences don't support your topic sentence, If you even have any! ", "Why are all your sentences so broken up?" or maybe"Where is your variety of sentence patterns?"So I am going to rewrite it. See how hardworking I am? *coughs* and ofcorse if I take my time and type it out nicely here, I can just copy it when I need it for public speaking. Cleaver right?

The flight to Beijing was incredibly boring. My brothers and me were sitted in the center and the T.V. screen was very far away. Too far for my lousy half-powered glasses to read the subtitles on a Chinese show. So I ended up sleeping most of the time. There was a mix up with our food, and they gave the whole tour (16 people) VEGETARIAN food. *gag*. There I saw my dad's true colours. Since they serve the special meals first, He hid his and my mom's one behind my chair, and asked for new meals. Wow, great examples. *grins* During the landing, Both me and David had air pressure problems. His was at the nose and went up to the forehead, while mine was alot of pain in the ears. (I'm not talking about the normal one where you can swallow or yawn to make it go away.) When we finally reached the ground, my pain slowly, SLOWLY, went away.

When we entered the airport, almost everything seemed to be in Chinese characters, and this lady(who looked like an older version of Eirena) asked me (in english) to write down my seat number but her slang was really hard to understand, so I misunderstood that she asked me (in chinese) to sign my name. So I signed half way, and she said, impatiantly to go ahead. oops. When we met our tour guides (Mr.Peng, who speaks only chinese, and Allan, who comes from malaysia and can speak english.) they told us that that was already considered "day 2".

Everybody in the tour were abit dissapointed, but there was nothing we could do about it. Oh, and the immigration people couldn't recognize me as me in my passport (which wasn't taken very long ago) which is flattering cause the picture is NOT good.

Yes, I'm going to do a post on TOD. (Tabernacle Of David) (my old church) (where I went to for the first 9~10 years of my life almost every Sunday)

I decided to do this post because i wished someone from TOD "happy birthday" and the reply was "aww... you still remember me" Then I recalled a time when I actually smsed Melodie, and she said "You remember her rite?."

Suddenly I have realized they don't know how much i miss them. How everytime I see their pics on the Feast Of Tabernacles i feel like crying because I miss it, the fruits that would be put beside the stage, the dancing, the colourful things the people would hold up to let the kids run under. The Passover, where the kids would get to eat lunch that had quail eggs in it.

I miss the people. I miss my friends. I even miss the church building, because every picture I look at, that is inside the church building is filled with memories. Sanctuary 2, the kitchen, even the gate, (I remember searching for sweets during a treasure hunt there.) I feel sad for not being mature enough to join the youth before I left, but I still remember the first thing Rachel Yao shared at the youth when they were letting us try. (It was about sheep being stupid =) ) I miss the mushroom soup with rice and meatballs ( I still haven't eaten any nicer mushroom soup with rice than that) I remember how much it had hurt, when after I had left, and I came back for camp, you called me a "visitor." I remember when we were asked to do the dances and songs. I remember disliking being leader of a group at camp because some would not listen to me, but in the end it taught me patience. I remember how, when cell group came to my house, when they leave my room would be in a mess.

So you see, if I can still remember all these things that aren't important. How can I forget you all? You were and still are, my family =)

n since normally i used paint... i'm gona say whats better and whats worse in this app

n it has an opacity effect thing for the brush

first of all MERRY CHRISTMAS!

yeap as you can see i changed the colour to black cause every time i looked at my blog i got a headache...

anyways...

i cut my hair!

n now i look like...

camp was AWESOME

like seriously...

we did push ups... squats... n loads of jumping

the most painful one was the JUMPING!

my calves still hurt today!
